In Coaching, we start with a process of envisioning what you truly want. Then I help my clients create a plan to move forward to get what the really want. So, if they’re starting a new business, we create a business plan. If they want to loose weight, we work on a step-by-step approach to achieve vibrant health. If they want better communication at work, we work systematically to achieve this. I think you have the picture.
One of the most exciting parts of the plan, however, is to remain open for opportunities that the client never dreamed of. This requires some balance. I have many clients, particularly my creative types (artist, writers, musicians) who really don’t want to plan. They want to go with the flow. That works well until they have a “block". Then they experience angst, depression, sometimes substance abuse and absolutely no work in their field. My creative clients want balance too, and are often tired of living this way. It’s important to create a plan of what is really important to you. The Section on “No" in this book will be very helpful to creative types and others who have schedules that are just too full. You will experience momentum once you decide what is really important to you. Then, as you experience that forward movement, more opportunities from unexpected places come your way.
I’ve seen this in action frequently in my own life. As I was writing this book I began doing several things to create the book and offer it to you and others. I created a writing plan. I purchased a white board calendar. On the white board I created my writing plan. I wrote in the dates, wrote how many hours a day I would write daily. Each day that I wrote I checked off my accomplishment and wrote down how many pages I completed. This was my writing plan, I also created a plan to create a website and a plan to let people know how they could receive my book.
I often use Louise Hay's writing as an inspiration in my life. One card from Louise Hay's Power Thought cards jumped into my mind as I was writing this book. On the front of the card is a woman holding an open envelope. The affirmation reads, “I am open and receptive to new avenues of income." On the other side of the card there are pictures of a door, envelope, phone and newspaper. In my mind I also added magazines, e-mails and computers. The affirmation on this side states, “I now receive my good from expected and unexpected sources. I am an unlimited being, accepting from an unlimited source, in an unlimited way. I am blessed beyond my fondest dreams."
Two weeks after I began my plan and my openness for new opportunities, I was e-mailed by a freelance writer who was writing an article for a national magazine. He wanted to interview me on my Coaching work with clients and their finances. The timing was perfect. That is where preparedness and openness converge to create opportunity!!
If you want to remain open to new opportunities, I think Anthony Robbins five-step plan from his Getting the Edge tape series is highly effective.
1. EVERY MORNING put your walking shoes on and head out the door. Plan to spend a minimum of 15 minutes up to 60 minutes at least 5 days a week on this activity. Get moving and begin by walking. If you enjoy running, then after you’re armed up, then you can jog the rest of the time.
2. Begin your movement by concentrating on EVERYTHING you’re grateful for. Think in a stream of consciousness. Your gratitude thoughts may sound like this. “I’m grateful for being able to move, I’m grateful for the fresh morning air, I’m grateful that I’m healthy, my husband is healthy, my children are healthy. I’m grateful to be able to pay my bills. I’m grateful my children are doing well in school. I’m grateful for the blue sky. I’m grateful for my neighborhood, my friends, and my family………." You get the picture. Spend several minutes thinking about what you’re grateful for.
3. Next, focus on what you really want. Clearly, as you’re moving create a picture in your minds eye of what you really want. Do you want to be healthy, vital, youthful, fit and trim? See yourself as all of those things. Do you want a fun, meaningful, productive, financially reward job? See yourself in that position. Do you want to travel to a wonderful exotic location? See yourself and your loved ones on that adventure. Again, spend several minutes focusing fully on what you really want.
4. When your complete with step three then create several power affirmations. When I work with people, I simply have them use the word or phrases that mean the most to them. So, choose your own words for this step. In this step you state out loud, as you’re moving a powerful statement of your best self. You can use phrases like, “Every day in every way, I’m getting better and better. Every day in every way I’m stronger, smarter, younger and love myself more. I easily attract waves of income, energy and resources to me". Say these things out loud as you’re moving. Feel the power and energy move through you. Create your own power statements.
5. Towards the end of your movement time during your cool down, think about the magical moments you’ve experienced this week. Think about the times when you felt vibrantly alive. Focus on those times in your minds eye.
Those are the five steps. What you are doing is creating a physiology that supports the psychology of positive emotion. You are creating physical action along with envisioning and affirmations that can create a strong positive emotional state of being for your entire day. This practice adds energy and expectation to your plans as well as opens new opportunities to flow to you. Enjoy!
